New home construction and home remodels are our specialty

Achieving energy efficiency is paramount with newly constructed homes, major home remodeling projects and new home additions. It is the key driver behind the movement to build a highly energy-efficient Passive House or a Net Zero home (one that actually produces more energy than it uses).

Energy efficiency is also a requirement for getting a passing HERS (Home Energy Rating System) Index score.

Considering today’s heating and cooling costs alone, homeowners building a new home, renovating a current home or putting an addition on their home will want to ensure that installing insulation is a key part of the project plan. Complete, proper insulation will ensure the air-tightness that will achieve their desired energy efficiency rating.

However, given the variety of available insulation products, homeowners will want to choose the product that best fits their energy-efficiency and lifestyle goals.

New Remodel, Brownstone Home – Boston, MA

We insulated the top floor apartment of this 1800s-era, 7-story Brownstone at 19 Father Francis Gilday St. in Boston’s South End. Cellulose insulation was blown in behind the Intello membrane throughout the building envelope, dramatically reducing the unit’s heating requirements and lowering the energy bill.
The full story on the remodeling is at High Performance Building Supply, which states the project achieved “Passive House levels of airtightness, confirmed by a blower door test score of 0.5 ACH50 (air changes per hour) – exemplary for this type of retrofit project.”

We bring years of experience to every project

Our team at Dolphin Insulation has built years of experience with not only insulating or upgrading insulation in existing homes but also installing state-of-the-art and environmentally safe insulation products in modern home construction and remodeling projects. We’ve insulated many new homes from top to bottom, installing insulation products in attics, walls and basements and around doors, windows, HVAC systems and ductwork.

Get your home’s HERS Index rating through us

The HERS Index is the industry standard by which a home’s energy efficiency is measured as well as the nationally recognized system for inspecting and calculating a home’s energy performance.
When your new home, addition or remodeling project is complete, we have a certified HERS rater on our team, Dolphin Insulation Specialist, Tom Ducharme, who can perform the in-depth energy performance assessment of your project and calculate your rating.

New Family Home – Stow, MA

This project involved building a new home for a Stow family whose previous home was overcome with toxic mold while they were attending to a devastating health situation with their young son.

Mother-in-Law Addition – Littleton, MA

The homeowner wanted the addition to be quiet as well as healthy and comfortable for her aging mother because the home sits on a noisy main road.

We insulated the double stud walls with 12″ of cellulose insulation protected by the Intello membrane for an R42 wall. We also air-sealed the attic and blew 22″ of cellulose on the attic floor for an R74. The radiant heated floor (an overhang ceiling) is dense-packed with 10″ of cellulose covered with a Solitex vapor smart membrane for an R35. This addition is so well insulated, it costs the homeowner next to nothing to heat and cool it . The complete thermal boundary of insulation provides amazing sound-deadening and will manage moisture, never grow mold and last for the life of the structure as it protects the home from outside elements as well as fire.
