We recently received this message from a contact at Conservation Services Group:

Subject: Mass Save HES Alert- Insulation Scam in NH

Good Afternoon,

We’ve learned of a “scam” allegedly taking place in New Hampshire that we wish to make you aware of. A company had allegedly been cold-calling homeowners and offering a low-cost energy audit while misrepresenting itself as affiliated with National Grid’s weatherization programs. They are then reported to have performed mock energy audits, substandard insulation work and then are nowhere to be found to address repair issues.

In the WHDH.com news story (see the link below) Channel 7 News interviews a representative of the New Hampshire chapter of the Better Business Bureau who reports that this is not an isolated case and others have been reported throughout the country.

WHDH responsibly informs the public at the tail end of the story that customers are not charged for valid Home Energy Assessments sponsored by their utilities, and that the utilities do not call out to customers to get them to participate.

In an effort to assure your customers feel comfortable with your representation of the Program, please be sure to clearly identify yourself as representing the Mass Save Home Energy Services Program. Please remember to utilize the tools you were given to further identify your work with the Program (the participating contractor logo and the Program-provided marketing materials). Please also remember to point customers to the published contractor lists at the Mass Save website to confirm your company’s participation:
